Hats Off To Helping Hands 2011-2012

Thank You For Your Time & Energy!

It feels like we already had spring and summer and now we are slowly getting back into spring again!  Spring brings us to the end of our calendar year here at the club.   We have had such a great year at the Janesville Woman’s Club and I would like to take this time to thank our dedicated Board for all their hard work.  I take my “hat off” to each and everyone one of you for all your dedication and hard work, which makes the Woman’s Club a continuing success.  Thank you for your time and energy!

I also want to thank all our members for all your time and charitable donations throughout the year.  It’s so inspiring that we come together as a group each month, enjoy camaraderie, learn something new, and take the time to bring in donations for our community.  I love that!  Community Donations Chair is where I started my journey with JWCA.  I was hooked once I had an inside look at what we donated as a group.  If you are new to Woman’s Club, or a longtime member, please consider volunteering your time and talents.  I have been truly blessed to be among such incredible woman here at the Janesville Woman’s Club.

As we wrap up this year I would like to thank you for a wonderful year!  I look forward to next year with our new Board and fresh new ideas.  Enjoy your summer and see you in the Fall!

Sincerely,
Sheri Thomsen, JWCA President

DUES REMINDER!

Happy Spring!! It's so nice to see the flowers blooming and lawns starting to turn green again!  We'll be ending our 2011-2012 season next month so you can enjoy this wonderful time of year.  But please remember that the Woman's Club is a great club with great members that do wonderful things for Janesville and the surrounding areas. We want you to continue to be a part of that, so we hope you will join the club again next season so we can continue to give back to our community.

Please mail in to the Janesville Woman’s Club building or bring to our next meeting.

Thanks, and have a great summer!

Join the fun! Be apart of a JWCA Committee for 2012-2013!

There are many levels of involvement. Most members feel that serving on a committee/Board position is a great way to meet a lot of other members quickly and to learn what goes on “behind the scenes” of the Woman’s Club!  Please contact Nominating Committee Chair, Sue Grund, if you are interested in giving back to our organization.  Call Sue Grund at 758-1564 or email susangrund@charter.net.

“I started with bringing food once or twice and helping a bit with setup or cleanup. Corny but true-- learned some names and faces. Of course that led to being treasurer and other offices and committees. I've not really found such an easy-going group elsewhere- nor have I really looked. It is a friendly, enthused and always entertaining group of women.”

– Ann Roe, current Sunshine Committee Chair.

“Greeters were needed, so I jumped right in, figuring it was a great way to meet people.  I enjoyed serving on the food committee because then I could get recipes from all the great cooks....I still enjoy the great variety of food at every meeting! “

– Karla Nitz, current Parliamentarian.

“A friend asked me to go with her to an evening program.  I worked outside of Janesville and really didn't know anyone in town.  I felt very welcome and it was a smorgasbord night!  So between the camaraderie and the food, I was hooked!”

– Ann Tearman, current Treasurer.

“My second year I jumped right into the VP of Programs and had a blast with my friend Dana, who took the Evening Programs director. The two positions work really well together as you coordinate the fun program themes. We made friends with all of the women on the board very quickly and found everyone to be so helpful. If you want to get involved but are hesitant, I would highly recommend doing any position with a friend for your first year.”

– Lisa Bingham, current Publicity Chair.

“I went to the book club in summer and by fall jumped on board as secretary. Enjoyed the monthly fun board meetings and the relationships that ensued. Loved working on cook book and programs. Very fun to pick out topics & speakers the summer prior.  Hard to believe that was 10 years ago!“

– Erika Boehlke, current Evening Programs Chair

“I was first invited to Woman's Club by my neighbor, Julie Lyons, when my first daughter was a baby, 9 years ago.  I grew up in Janesville but have met so many people that I might not have otherwise.  It is a great group of ladies and I feel lucky to be a part of it!  I was asked to be on the board (thanks Ann Roe!) which is a great, fun way to get to know people better.  Great way to have fun while serving our community!”

– Kari Masterson, current Historian Chair.

“Mary Seibert-Morin, a long time member, suggested I attend a JWCA meeting.  I met many women that were working to help our community and knew I wanted to be a part of that. Shortly after I joined, I was asked to help on the Membership Committee.  I thought that because I was so new I probably wouldn't be much help, but I eventually agreed and it was the best thing I could have done.  It helped me become an active, participating member of the JWCA instead of just sitting on the sidelines.  I eventually became the VP of Membership and there are always people that helped me out. Take the first step and join a committee or hostess an event; it will bring you closer to many members and make you feel like an integral part of this great club!”

– Carla Edgar, current VP of Membership.

“I just started by helping with clean up and set up…tried to learn the ropes…brought some food and everyone was so helpful and friendly that I eventually was a hostess and committee member.  I really enjoy the people and helping others, which is why this club is so important to the community.”

– Jo Marden, current Secretary.

Community Donations for Spring 2012

Hat's off to generous hands! This year the Women's Club has continued to provide amazing support to our community. Through donations to the Salvation Army, Roosevelt School Breakfast Club, Project 16:49, Bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Janesville Public Schools, Goshin House, House of Mercy, Echo and next month the Rock County Humane Society, so far this year we have raised and donated over $3,100.00 worth of much needed supplies to support the children and families of Janesville. As the Community Services chair, I have been blessed with the opportunity to deliver most of these gifts, and have been rewarded with the expressions of gratitude from every organization I visited. What an honor to belong to a group of women truly dedicated to making Janesville stronger and better.

Thank you,
Shelley Ochowski, Community Service Chair
